Why is leadership needed? If each individual could solve all problems by himself, leadership wouldn’t be necessary. The issue is that we are linked to organisations that have to face an endless number of challenges themselves. These often complex challenges are happening at an ever faster pace and demand to be addressed effectively and swiftly by co-workers. Leadership is needed to broaden teams’ reach and efficiency.
Leadership is often related to top management or any person in a role of authority. This perception is wrong. A leader can just be someone who takes the initiative of gathering a small group of people to pursue a common task in a timely and fit for purpose manner.
A good leader empowers the team through proper training, whilst fostering its autonomous problem-solving capabilities. He or she must understand the big picture of any challenge, being capable of transmitting it in a clear and supportive way.
